Lessons from the Field: A Race, Culture and Children’s Mental Health Series March 18, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Coffman Union Theater, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis East Bank Campus and broadcast live to host sites in Greater Minnesota.
The Center for Excellence in Children's Mental Health and Harris Programs of the University of Minnesota are partnering this year to sponsor a series on culture in the context of children's mental health. The combined series features three Lessons from the Field workshops as well as the annual spring Harris Forum.

Legislators & Kids "Do Lunch!" By Robert Hanks
On Tuesday, January 12, local legislators joined families from the Sauk Rapids/Rice Family Literacy program for a ‘Legislator Lunch with Children’. The event was co-sponsored by Child Care Choices, Playhouse Childcare and Thrive.
Rep. Steve Gottwalt, Dist. 15A, Larry Haws, Dist. 15B, Larry Hosch, Dist. 14B, and Dan Severson, District 14A joined with Senators Tarryl Clark, Michelle Fischbach and Sauk Rapids School Board member Mark Hauck as they shared school lunch and conversation with early childhood families. Highlights of the event included a shared meal with families and legislators and a short presentation by parents whose families have participated in various early childhood programs including Child Care, Head Start, Preschool and Family Literacy. Legislators also had the opportunity to observe classrooms and the interaction between early childhood teachers and their students.

________________________________________ Survey of Children's Exposure to Violence – released from The Office of Juvenile Justice and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, this is an overview of results from a national survey. The results show how children in the United Sates are more likely to be exposed to violence and crime than adults, and discuss topics including children's exposure to various types of violence, the most common victimizations for various age groups, and implications for policy makers, researchers and practitioners.
