Young people have a passion and energy for service.
The Initiative Foundation supports local and regional efforts that actively involve young people in their communities whether it be a school, spiritual or geographic community. Active involvement strengthens young people’s ability to affect change by giving them opportunities to become more skilled, confident and motivated. As a result, young people are better able to determine their own destiny in life and to positively affect the destiny of their community.
“Today's young people are the adults we're going to depend on tomorrow--as workers, leaders, voters, friends, and neighbors. We'll call on them to help solve complex problems, make critical decisions, and care for us as we age. Right now, we should be doing everything we can to make sure they continue to grow into well rounded, successful citizens and family members.” Youth Community Connections
Positive and caring relationships with adults are critical in engaging young people. Adults coach, guide and support young people emotionally as they develop into engaged adults. And so, while we believe young people have the ability and obligation to act on their own behalf, we likewise believe that adults have an obligation to support youth action.
The Initiative Foundation supports Youth as Resources (YAR) programs across our region because it is a proven youth engagement model. In addition, the foundation provides grants to other eligible agencies and organizations which share our belief in the importance of engaging youth rather than simply providing for them. |
