Brian Voerding

Brian joined the Initiative Foundation team in 2021 as vice president for inclusive entrepreneurship and was named president of the organization in November 2023.

“I am thrilled to lead the Initiative Foundation and be a part of this team that has such an incredible impact in the communities we serve,” said Brian, who grew up in Montrose and graduated from Buffalo high school in Wright County. “I’m eager to build on the legacy of those who came before me to provide strategic funding and support for small businesses and nonprofit organizations, to cultivate the next generation of rural leaders, and to facilitate a spirit of generosity and inclusivity in Central Minnesota.”

Prior to joining the Initiative Foundation, Brian founded and served as executive director for Engage Winona, a social-change nonprofit focused on creating equitable access and giving voice to community and economic development solutions for the Greater Winona area. Brian also served as editor of the Winona Daily News from 2011 to 2017. He holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from St. Mary’s University and undergraduate degrees in behavioral psychology and music from Hamline University.

Brian and his family make their home in the greater St. Cloud area. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, reading, writing, playing music, and being outdoors.
