Special Grant Round

Loneliness and social isolation are growing challenges in Central Minnesota. What can we do to reverse course?

Through a special one-time grant round, the Initiative Foundation and its funding partner are teeing up $100,000 to provide a limited number of grants for projects, programs, and community-building ideas that bridge differences and bring people together.

The application is open and will close on March 21. We anticipate making award announcements by mid-April.

Nonprofits, schools, and local units of government are eligible to apply. These grants—with awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000—are designed to foster genuine engagement and community-based connections in Central Minnesota. Eligible organizations can apply to support or grow existing programs and services, or they can be used to explore new ways of local community engagement.

Applicants can define their project within one of three areas:

  • Projects that strengthen social bonds through shared experiences, events, or community gatherings.
  • Projects that create social bonds while addressing community challenges, such as workforce, youth or elder engagement, serving those who are underserved or marginalized, or connecting people who are caretakers.
  • Projects that strengthen relationships and build understanding among two or more communities that have historically been in conflict or isolated from one another other. Examples could include the development and creation of events that bring communities together for learning, fun, or general engagement.
