Main Street Economic Revitalization Grants

The Initiative Foundation was selected by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development to award Minnesota Main Street Economic Revitalization program grants in Brainerd, Cold Spring, Little Falls, Long Prairie, Pine River and St. Cloud. In total, the Foundation will award $4.5 million to businesses in the six qualifying communities.

Brainerd

  • Brainerd Family YMCA, 602 Oak St: A $150,000 grant for repair and renovation of building adjacent to the YMCA to create a new child care center. The center will expand the number of children the YMCA can serve while also addressing an urgent community need. Total project cost: $1,456,000.
  • Stangler Properties, LLC, 515 S. Ninth St: A $60,000 grant to construct two new units of affordable rental housing in the downtown corridor. Total project cost: $200,000.
  • Anderson Dry Cleaning, 416 South 8th St.: A $21,000 grant for new electric, flooring, signage and a roof. Total project cost: $70,000.
  • First Impression Print & Design, 401 Front St.: A $44,327.61 grant for remodeling and purchasing new signage. Total project cost: $240,000.
  • Lakes Chiropractic, 413 S 6th St.: $36,000 for demolition to allow for clinic expansion. Total project cost: $120,000.
  • Adapt Family Martial Arts, 217 Washington St.: $3,000 for the purchase of specialized flooring. Total project cost: $10,000.
  • David Pueringer Rental Properties: The project will remodel eight rental housing properties in the downtown Brainerd area:
    • 301 South 7th St.: $18,191 for new doors, windows and an electric upgrade for rental apartment units. Total project cost: $60,639.
    • 209-211 South 7th St.: $8,608 for a new roof, kickplates on doors, and an awning on this four-unit apartment building that includes commercial space. Total project cost: $28,633.
    • 616 Front St.: $7,926 for a new roof, new fire doors and kick plates on this building with 10 apartment units and three commercial spaces. Total project cost: $26,422.
    • 1702 Norwood St.: $5,057 for a new apartment building roof. Total project cost: $16,859.
    • 201 South 7th St.: $4,176 to install a new roof on this apartment and commercial building. Total project cost: $13,922.
    • 214 South 7th St.: $3,809 to install a new roof on the unit which includes four rental apartments and one commercial space. Total project cost: $12,696.
    • 1624 Oak St: $2,362 to install a new garage door and roof on this apartment building. Total project cost: $7,875.
    • 1610 Maple St.: $815 to install a new garage door at this rental home. Total project cost: $2,719.
  • Teeny Bubbles, Inc., 1002 Laurel St.—$45,000 to remodel a building to become a childcare center. Total project cost: $427,300.
  • Moore’s Properties, 605 Laurel St.—$14,400 for awning and parking lot repairs. Total project cost: $45,346.
  • Wagner Holdings, 101 Washington St.—$11,759 for a new roof, exterior paint and parking lot refurbishments. Total project cost: $39,199.
  • Copper Cat Escape Games, 605 Laurel St.—$6,000 for signs and building materials. Total project cost: $20,000.
  • The Gallery of Brainerd, 222 S. 7th St.—$3,460 to repair signage and awnings. Total project cost: $11,535.
  • American Legion Post 255, 708 Front St.—$3,000 to repair interior pulleys and cables for the flagpole. Total project cost: $10,000.
  • Brainerd Quick Wash, 204 Washington St.—$15,000 to remodel the building façade and update lighting, signage, doors and concrete. Total project cost: $50,000.
  • Mickey’s, 417 S. 5th St.—$5,511 to update sign and install a pollinating garden. Total project cost: $18,370.
  • Music General, 416 S. 7th St.—$19,500 to repair the roof, install new flooring and update the entrance area. Total project cost: $65,000.
  • Yesterday’s Gone Bar & Grill, 219 S. 9th St.—$13,632 to repair and repave the parking lot. Total project cost: $45,441.
  • CatTale’s Books & Gifts, 609 Laurel St.—$1,560 to updated cracked bookstore signage and to provide free books to the downtown community from a Little Free Library. Total project cost: $5,200.
  • Brainerd Restoration, 416 S 6th St.—$3,366 to construct a downtown community seating area. Total project cost: $11,220.
  • Severson Porter Law, 319 S 6th St.—$47,129 for structural improvements and remodeling. Total project cost: $700,000.

Cold Spring

  • KHK Properties, 201 Main St.: A $199,950 grant for new construction to be occupied by a chiropractic clinic with additional space available for lease. The project includes landscaping, streetscaping and design and engineering. Total project cost: $889,969.
  • Quarry Cinema, 111 E. Highway 23: A $46,364 grant to repair and renovate outdated and ineffective systems. Total project cost: $154,556.
  • RJS Enterprises, 205 16th Ave. S.: A $60,000 grant to install plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical systems and renovate to ultimately open an ice cream business. Total project cost: $285,000.
  • Snap Fitness, 20 Red River Ave. S., Ste. 120: A $6,000 grant for new paint and exterior signage. Total project cost: $20,000.
  • Side Bar & Grill, 15 North Red River Ave.: A $13,500 grant for exterior building improvements. Total project cost: $45,000.
  • Subway, 28 Red River Ave. N.: A $52,500 grant for remodeling. Total project cost: $175,000.
  • Grumpy’s Bar, 313 Main St.—$40,000 for an addition, remodel and landscaping. Total project cost: $140,000.
  • JRJAJ Holdings, 22 3rd Ave S.—$3,000 to paint the building. Total project cost: $10,000.
  • Winners Bar & Grill, 200 Main St.—$26,373 for new siding, windows, a door and sign. Total project cost: $92,590.
  • Discrete Designs, 309 Main St.—$2,070 for basement repairs. Total project cost: $6,900
  • L&M Properties, 200 3rd St. S—$12,690 for demolition of a building to prepare for new development. Total project cost: $66,000.
  • Northern Beauty Salon & Spa, LLC, 314 Red River Ave. S.—$4,704 for landscaping, outdoor sign, new fence, exterior paint and an awning. Total project cost: $24,467.
  • The Blue Heron, 305 5th Ave. S.—$8,489 for completion of a courtyard remodel. Total project cost: $44,156.

Little Falls

  • Community Development of Morrison County, 316 E. Broadway Ave.: A $3,000 grant for replacement windows. Total project cost: $10,000.
  • Purple Carrot Market, 53 E. Broadway Ave.: A $15,636 grant to install custom boilers and to prepare architectural and construction documents for a planned owner-member food cooperative. The total project cost: $52,121.
  • Little Falls Plumbing and Heating, 120 Second St. NE: A $27,450 grant to replace the roofing on the building. Total project cost: $91,500.
  • First Avenue Advertising, 122, 1st Ave. SE: A $12,232 grant for removal of asbestos siding and installation of new siding and windows. Total project cost: $40,774.
  • Black Dog Opportunities, 113 to 115 First St. SE: A $133,800 grant for demolition, exterior repair, mechanical and electrical upgrades. Total project cost: $1.27 million.
  • The Falls Theatre, 117 First St. SE: A $192,789 grant for demolition, interior and exterior repair, mechanical and electrical updates. Total project cost: $642,630.
