Emerging Needs Grants Available for Nonprofits

The Initiative Foundation is now accepting applications for its Emerging Needs grant round, which provides up to $5,000 in short-term funding for nonprofits facing sudden challenges or unexpected losses of state or federal funding.

These flexible, rapid-response grants are designed to help organizations remain resilient and responsive during times of crisis. Funds may be used to stabilize operations, adapt or expand services and meet urgent community needs across the Foundation’s 14-county service area, which includes portions of the Leech Lake and Mille Lacs Bands of Ojibwe.

“We know that unexpected challenges can quickly disrupt a nonprofit’s ability to serve,” said Nicole Clements, nonprofit development program officer. “These Emerging Needs grants are meant to provide rapid, flexible support so organizations can stabilize and continue delivering essential services when their communities need them most.”

Funding Priorities

Emerging Needs grants will prioritize nonprofits that …

- have recently experienced a sudden loss of state or federal funding
- provide services related to basic needs, workforce and economic programs, non-clinical mental health or support for individuals affected by crime or discrimination.
- have not received Initiative Foundation grant funding in the past year
- are headquartered in and primarily serve the Foundation’s 14-county region.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits with at least three years of continuous programming and an annual budget between $100,000 and $2 million. Fiscal sponsorships are not eligible.
