Foundation Relaunches Thriving Communities Initiative

The Initiative Foundation is proud to relaunch its Thriving Communities Initiative as a pilot program to empower smaller Central Minnesota communities—those under 5,000 residents—to build stronger local leadership and enhance community vitality.

“For communities working hard to preserve their unique character and economic health, the Thriving Communities Initiative will provide dedicated coaching, resources and connections,” said Amy Trombley, vice president for community. “This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring every area of Central Minnesota can flourish.”

Up to five communities will be chosen for this opportunity, which will include a mix of in-person and virtual trainings and work with an accountability coach. Selected communities will form a local planning team of three to five people from diverse backgrounds and sectors. Each community will receive planning and implementation grants and will be eligible for additional grant funding of up to $10,000 upon program completion.

“Small towns are the heart of our region,” said Brian Voerding, Initiative Foundation president. “Through the Thriving Communities Initiative, we’re walking alongside local leaders to help them shape a future that reflects their strengths, values and hopes.”
